An in-person clinic
For a visit in a room, make the practical details clear before agreeing to care.
- Who will assess the health question?
- What health records can you bring?
- How are questions handled after the visit?
- What does the visit fee include?
Licensed telehealth
Telehealth means care through a remote link, such as video, rather than sitting in the same room.
State permission depends on your location during the visit. The health professional needs a licence or legal permission to work in that state. Federal health guidance said this at the September 26, 2026 check.
- Ask who the clinician is—the health professional assessing the question.
- Give the clinician the name of the state where you’ll be during your visit.
- Ask whether you will speak with the health professional during the visit or fill in a health form for them to read later.
- If they read the form later, ask how you can speak with them or exchange questions.
The assessment still matters
Medical-board guidance applies one care standard to both remote visits and visits in person.
- When a test or physical exam is needed, that guidance calls for it to be carried out, arranged, or referred elsewhere.
- Ask who will explain the result and what happens after it.
- Write down any treatment question still unanswered. Ask for an explanation before agreeing to that treatment.
